An Post must retain its branch post office in Phibsborough- Costello
Speaking at a public meeting in the Scouts’ Hall Phibsborough, Joe Costello, Labour Party Spokesperson on Urban Regeneration criticised An Post for deciding to close down one of its last three remaining branches on the North Side of Dublin.
“If this rate of closure by An Post continues, the only Branch Post Office left in the City will be the GPO. All the others will be privatised by An Post which is now a semi-state commercial company.
“Phibsborough Post Office is a major branch serving a population of over 15,000 people. It is extremely busy and a privately operated sub-post office cannot possibly provide the same service.
“An Post can give no guarantee as to where the new service will be located. The present seven members of staff have not been personally contacted by An Post but they expect to be redeployed.
“Phibsborough needs its Branch Office. It is rapidly growing with planning permission for a €50 million development of its shopping centre, the Cross City Luas will open on the 9th December and the development of Grangegorman Campus for 24,000 students is taking place on its doorstep.
“Now is the time for An Post to expand its vision and its services for Phibsborough and retain the Post Office as a Branch office and give this wonderful urban village a vote of confidence.”
