Flanagan to attend Seanad over Garda overtime ban- Humphreys

29 November 2017

Labour Dublin Senator Kevin Humphreys has welcomed confirmation that the Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan will attend the Seanad this evening in relation to concerns over cutbacks to Garda overtime this Christmas.

Senator Humphreys said:

“In light of news today that there are to be cutbacks to Garda overtime over the Christmas period, I welcome that the Minister for Justice, Charlie Flanagan, will address the Seanad to debate the issue this evening at my request.

“It is absolutely essential that the capital city is fully resourced during this busy Christmas period when we tend to see increases in crime levels, and any significant cutbacks would be an own goal to career criminals.

“We heard the GRA today say that the ban would leave an ‘open door for criminals’. This clearly needs further scrutiny and reassurance to the public from the Minister, and I look forward to this evening’s debate.”
