Ryanair should extend trade union recognition to other workers in company – Howlin

16 December 2017

Labour Party Leader Brendan Howlin TD, has called on Ryanair to make early and generous concessions to other categories of workers at the company in their bids to secure union recognition and to move quickly to ensure that there is no break in Christmas services.

Deputy Howlin said:

“We can’t have a situation where there is union recognition available to one category of workers and not another. Particularly, if it can look like discrimination against lower paid workers.

“Ryanair now need to meet the demands of baggage handlers and other workers whose claims for union recognition are longstanding.

“I believe these series of decisions will make Ryanair a better company and mark a significant staging post on its journey to maturity.

“Unions are not company wreckers. Rather they play an important role in ensuring stability and fairness within companies. I believe Ryanair will appreciate that in time.”
