30 April 2018

Labour spokesperson on Employment Affairs & Social Protection, Senator Ged Nash has welcomed the announcment of the first major Chinese biopharma investment in Ireland by WuXi Biologics that will deliver 400 jobs in Dundalk.

  • Dundalk site identified for large-scale pharma investment in 2015 Regional Action Plan for Jobs

Senator Nash said:
“The announcement of a massive €5325million investment by WuXi Biologics in a new state-of-the-art pharmaceuticals operation in Dundalk is a massive vote of confidence in Louth.

“This will deliver 400 jobs for the north east border region, and it’s the first major greenfield Chinese biopharma investment in Ireland.

“The Regional Action Plan for the Border Region, which I co-authored and launched in late 2015 mandated the IDA to deliver large-scale pharmaceutical and life-sciences investment to the IDA site in the town.

“That policy decision has paid off with the announcement today of this unprecedented investment in the region.

“Ireland is home to 24 of the top pharma and bio-tech companies in the world.

“We have a well deserved reputation for expertise in this sector and this development comes hot on the heels of the announcement I made last week of 120 new jobs in Drogheda with the US pharmaceuticals packaging firm PCI Pharma Services.”
