Seanad should pass Road Traffic Bill before summer recess

06 July 2018

Labour Transport Spokesperson Kevin Humphreys has welcomed the passage of the Road Traffic Bill through the Dáil after weeks of delays and said Labour Senators will be seeking to have it passed through the Seanad before the recess

Senator Humphreys said

“I welcome the passing of the Road Traffic Bills through Dáil Éireann today after an unduly lengthy process. Despite the best efforts of its opponents, this much needed legislation is now being sent to the Seanad.

“The Labour senators will work to ensure that this bill makes it way swiftly through Seanad Éireann. It should not have taken this long to get to this stage but now that is in the Seanad I and my Labour colleagues are determined to work at get this over the line before the summer recess begins.

“The families of victims of drivers who have made the reckless decision to get behind the wheel under the influence, deserve this legislation to be passed. Irish roads will be made safer once this legislation is passed. There is no excuse for further delay on passing it into law.”
