Scally Must Report This Friday as Promised – Too Many Deadlines Missed

29 August 2018

Labour Party Health spokesperson, Alan Kelly TD, has called on the Scally report into Cervical Check to be provided to women at the centre of the controversy before its publication on Friday.

Deputy Kelly said:

“As August comes to an end, the Scally Report is on the minds of many who have been at the centre of the Cervical Check controversy. The Minister for Health, Simon Harris and Dr.Scally have made many public promises that the Scally Report would be delivered before the end of August and this deadline must be adhered to.

“Before the Report is circulated to the public, Dr Scally should provide the report to the people at the centre of the scandal and the steering committee either today or tomorrow to allow them to digest the findings of the report.

“Under no circumstances can this deadline be missed. Women and families at the centre of this awful scandal have been through enough bureaucratic hurdles. The Minister has made this commitment to these women and he needs to ensure that these women get an advance copy of this report by close of business tomorrow.

“I look forward to reading Dr. Scally’s report on Friday. Once his report has been published, the Government can finally establish a Commission of Inquiry. I have been clear from the beginning for the need for a full Commission of Inquiry to get to the bottom of this but this can only be done once Dr Scally completes his work.”
