Minister Murphy needs to regulate for all short term lets

16 September 2018

Labour Senator Kevin Humphreys has called on the Minister for Housing to expand proposed regulations on Airbnb to all short term let websites operating in Ireland.

Commenting today Senator Humphreys said:

“Reports of landlords moving to alternative short term let websites ahead of plans to regulate providers such as Airbnb are worrying but unsurprising. This trend has been seen in other cities such as London which is why my proposal is to legislate for all short term lets.

“I’m glad that after months of public pressure Minister Murphy is bringing recommendations on regulating Airbnb and short term let’s to Cabinet.

“However, if the benefits of these regulations are going to be diminished by the move of landlords to other short term let websites, we need to respond.

“I am calling on the Minister to include all short term let websites operating in Ireland in his recommendations. This will help reduce the impact short term lets are having on the rental crisis.”
