This afternoon, Labour Party Health spokesperson, Alan Kelly TD will be joined by Jan O’Sullivan TD, Councillors Elena Secas, Joe Leddin, Fiona Bonfield, former Clare TD Michael McNamara and local area representatives at University Hospital Limerick to campaign for the addition of a new 60 bed modular bed block to help alleviate the overcrowding in the hospital.

Deputy Alan Kelly said:

“I was delighted during the week that Minister Simon Harris confirmed to me in the Health Committee that he will fund the full development of the new 60 bed modular bed unit in University Hospital Limerick in the coming budget.

“The overcrowding situation in Limerick is one of the worst in the country and the Labour Party representatives in the Mid West have continuously raised this issue with the Minister.

“Despite the best efforts of staff and a management, UHL has one of the worst overcrowding situations in the country. We are demanding this block be funded and built ASAP. We are also demanding that the promised 96 bed block be brought forward for development as well and that adequate resources and personnel be provided. The current situation is a disgrace and can’t be let continue.”
