Price increases bad news for Dublin commuters
Labour’s Transport Spokesperson Kevin Humphreys has described Luas and Dublin Bus fares increases as bad news for commuters.
Senator Humphreys commented:
“At a time where we are trying to encourage more users on our buses and on the Luas, the fact that ticket and Leap tickets are due to increase yet again is discouraging.
“Commuters face serious gridlock on our roads on a daily basis. The only solution to this congestion is to provide efficient, reliable and cheap public transport services, especially buses in the short to medium term. Price hikes such as these will not encourage more people to use public transport in the critical period of the next five years.
“Any gains the commuters would have made in Budget 2019, will be diminished with these fare increases.
“Minister Ross needs to set out a plan as to how he will fully restore subventions to public transport providers.
“It is extremely unfair to expect commuters to shoulder ever spiralling public transport charges without knowing what the future of services are. With Bus Connects on the shelf and the future of MetroLink unknown, commuters need to know that they are getting good value for money.”
