The local community is shocked by man’s killing in Athy

02 November 2018

Labour Cllr. and Cathaoirleach of Athy Municipal District, Aoife Breslin has said that the local community is shocked by the violent killing in Athy Cllr. Breslin has called on anyone with any information to contact Athy Garda Station.

Speaking today Cllr. Breslin said:

“The reported violent death of David Boland on Duke Street this week is a terrible tragedy. I wish to offer my sincere condolences to the Mr.Bolands family and friends.

“The local community is shocked that such a violent and brutal assault should take place in its midst. Athy is a strong local community and this event is not reflective of the nature of the town.

“It seems all too frequently these days we are hearing reports of violent attacks and deaths. Foxrock in Dublin and Macroom in Cork have both recently experienced similar tragedies to what we have seen this week in Athy. I think there is a serious need for key stakeholders to get together and discuss how we can make out towns and wider communities safer.

“There is also a bigger conversation needed to had about violence in our society as a whole.

“The Gardaí are investigating the attack. I would ask that anyone with any information, no matter how small the detail, would get in touch with Athy Garda station.”
