Sherlock welcomes the announcement of new standards for children in care
Labour Spokesperson on Children Sean Sherlock TD, has welcomed the announcement from HIQA of National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres.
Speaking today Deputy Sherlock said:
“I welcome the announcement from HIQA of new standards launched to support children living in residential care. With over 400 children in care in Ireland is it of the utmost importance that we have the highest standard of care for them.
“It is welcome to hear that international best standards have been consulted in the design of these standards.
“Some of the children currently in care are very vulnerable. We are all too aware of cases in recent years which have come to light highlighting the abuse of children in state care. On this basis, I welcome the announcement of new standards from HIQA.”
