Cork Commuters deserve addition December services.

Labour TD for Cork Seán Sherlock has called on Irish Rail to expand sessional late night services to commuter routes in Cork for the Christmas season.

Commenting today Deputy Sherlock said:

“At this time of year, Irish Rail offer additional late night services over three weekends on five of the busiest commuter route into Dunlin. These include DART services to Howth, Greystones, as well as commuter services to Dundalk, Maynooth, and Kildare.

“These are excellent additions to the timetable and welcome at this time of year. However, the rail commuters of Cork are afforded no such additional services. Busy commuters routes out of Cork Kent station – Mallow, Midleton, and Cobh, would stand to benefit greatly from extra late night services into Cork city on Friday and Saturday nights in December.

“By offering these services on Cork commuters routes they would give their customers in Cork the same opportunity to take advantage of the shopping and socialising happing in Cork City as experienced by their commuters to Dublin. There is surely also a financial incentive to promote themselves as a late night transport option at this time of year.

“I would call on Irish Rail to consider their loyal Cork based customers in future timetable adjustments and offer them the same additional services as are offered to commuters from Dublin, Louth, Kildare, and Wicklow.”
