Kerry Hospital Bone Scanner lying idle for 3 years action needed
Labour Party Health spokesperson, Alan Kelly TD, has raised concerns about the availability of access to bone density scans in the South-West region, particularly in Co.Kerry.
Deputy Kelly said:
“GPs in Kerry have publicly stated that bone density scans testing patients for osteoporosis are not available to public patients in Kerry in either University Hospital Kerry or Cork University Hospital. This is extremely worrying.
“Time and time again GPs and patients in Kerry have been assured that the DEXA machine in University Hospital Kerry will be up and running, yet three years after its installation it still is not operational.
“Questions must be answered — why is the HSE purchasing expensive equipment just for it to sit in cold storage for three years? Why are public patients from Kerry being denied these scans in CUH?
“I will be asking questions of the Minister for Health, it should not be the case that over 200 people in Kerry are waiting for these types of tests, when the equipment is available but not operational in the local hospital.”
