Ó Ríordáin statement on blaze at Scoil Chaitríona Cailíní
Commenting on this morning’s fire at Scoil Chaitríona Cailíní in Coolock, Labour Senator in Dublin Bay North, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin commented:
“This was a very serious incident and we’re all really thankful that no one was hurt or injured in the blaze.
“While investigations continue into the cause of the fire, we need to ensure that the students at Scoil Chaitríona Cailíní are accommodated swiftly so their studies aren’t impacted.
“I’ve been down to the school today, and the teachers, parents and students are understandably devastated.
“But they’re a strong and resilient community and are putting their shoulders to the wheel to move forward from here.
“In the Seanad today, I’ve asked the Minister for Education to liaise with all schools to assuage any legitimate concerns that they may have regarding fire safety.
“Local concerns have also been raised with me about the availability of fire hydrants in the immediate vicinity of the school, and it’s appropriate at this time that local authority fire officers engage with every school community in their district to ensure fire safety standards are upheld.”
