Lack of decent bus service for Stepaside area must be addressed

18 October 2019

Labour Cllr Lettie McCarthy has said the ongoing failure of the Minister for Transport Shane Ross to address the terrible bus service for Stepaside, Kilternan, Glenamuck and Carrickmines must be addressed.

Cllr McCarthy said:

“There has been a huge population increase in the Stepaside, Kilternan, Glenamuck and Carrickmines areas but despite lots of talk about sustainable travel and encouraging people to use public transport, the Government have failed to provide it. We have a number of irregular bus services where more often than not the timetabled services don’t show when they are meant to.

“The failure of the Minister for Transport, Shane Ross, who claims to represent the area to resolve this must be addressed.

“I am inundated with complaints from constituents about the poor bus service for our area and the impact it has having on their lives.

“For example, on a regular basis some of the scheduled 47 bus services will fail to show, and people are being left stranded at bus stops, delayed for college, work or hospital appointments. This is despite the 47 only operating a very intermittent and irregular timetable as it is.

“It is also causing difficult for home care providers who rely on public transport but the unreliable service is leaving vulnerable people without support at home.

“There are simply not enough services on the 47 route or the 114 route.”
