Full school fire audit needed
Labour Party Education spokesperson, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has called for a full audit of fire safety resources in schools.
Senator Ó Ríordáin said:
“It is time for a full audit of all fire safety resources in our schools.
“We know that the Government are spending millions on remedial works for schools, it is appropriate that a fire audit would also be carried out.
“This fire audit must also include an audit of fire hydrants near schools provided by local councils.
“There was speculation locally that the fire at Scoil Chaitríona in Artane was harder to extinguish because of poor water pressure.
“It’s appropriate at this time that local authority fire officers engage with every school community in their district to ensure fire safety standards are upheld.”
