CUH Trolley figures unacceptable

21 November 2019

Labour By-Election candidate for Cork North Central, Cllr John Maher, has said the Government is consistently failing to get the trolley crisis in Cork under control, as the latest INMO figures show 54 people are waiting on trolleys in CUH today alone.

Cllr Maher said:

“The latest figures from the INMO show that yet again, the Government is failing to adequately deal with overcrowding in our emergency departments in Cork.

“Today, there are 54 people stuck on trollies at Cork University Hospital, making it the second worst impacted hospital in the country behind Limerick.

“This is simply unacceptable and a damning indictment on this Government.

“It’s easy to forget that these are not just numbers, but real people waiting on trollies.

“It is also causing significant stress for staff who are trying to work around so many frontline gaps in staffing due to the HSE recruitment ban.

“The Government’s winter health plan released last week will come as little comfort to those 54 people who are today waiting on trolleys at CUH.

“The people of Cork and those on the frontline of our health services deserve so much better.”
