Dublin Labour Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has again called for a Northside Commission to be set up following the latest fatal shooting in Coolock on Sunday.

Senator Ó Ríordáin said:

“This shocking murder in Coolock looks to be the fifth killing in the ongoing drugs feud in the area that’s growing increasingly violent and brazen.

“The grim reality is that this morning more local children had to walk by a murder scene on their way to school.

“Rather than just condemning another horrific gun attack, it is time for the Government to take action to stop this feud escalating further.

“For some time now I have been calling for a Northside Commission to be set up, involving all stakeholders especially schools, youth groups, Northside Partnership and other agencies.

“The Mulvey Report made a huge difference in the North Inner City, and we need to see a similar response across Dublin’s Northside straight away.

“We need to see increased investment and resources made a priority for these communities.”
