Extension welcome for childcare providers
Labour spokesperson on Children and Youth Affairs, Deputy Seán Sherlock, has welcomed an extension given to childcare providers to submit certain documentation to Tusla as part of the re-registration process.
Deputy Sherlock commented:
“Many childcare providers have been extremely concerned that they wouldn’t be able to re-open in January due to issues getting all the documentation required through to Tusla by the December deadline.
“This is already a really busy time of year for early year’s providers and staff in the run up to Christmas, and any possible delays to reopening centres in the New Year would have had a huge impact on workers, parents and children.
“Having called for an extension, I welcome the move by Tusla to push back the deadline for providers to submit certain requirements in the re-registration process by six months until the end of June.
“This should take some of the pressure off providers who were finding it difficult to meet the deadline, and hopefully avoid a scenario where some would not be able to re-open after the Christmas break.”
