Sherlock calls for driving tests to be restarted on June 29th
Labour Cork East TD Seán Sherlock has called for driving tests to be restarted on June 29th as part of the acceleration measures announced today. Approximately 30,000 learner drivers remain in limbo.
“Driving lessons and tests could arguably be put into the same category as hairdressing and barber shops,” said Deputy Sherlock.
“Over 27,000 learner drivers seem to have been overlooked. There is no timetable for the resumption of tests and lessons. These are people seeking a return to employment who cannot commit to job offers if they cannot legally drive to that job. These are mostly young people who are impacted by this apparent oversight.”
“If there is to be a new Minister for Transport shortly, that person should, as their first decision, move to provide certainty to all those awaiting a driving test.”
