Howlin welcomes agreement on Irish Language Act
Labour spokesperson on Northern Ireland Brendan Howlin has welcomed the agreement on the Irish Language Act which facilitated today’s renomination of a new Executive in Northern Ireland.
Deputy Howlin said:
“This is a difficult and unstable time for Northern politics. I warmly welcome last night’s agreement which facilitated today’s renomination of a new Executive.
“Clearly significant tensions exists within the DUP on the processes involved. The progress made to date has been through painstaking negotiations. Agreements made, must be delivered upon, it sustains the trust which is the foundation of peace.
“The outworking of a hard Brexit has eroded trust. We must all work to address issues of real concern in both communities in Northern Ireland. The Irish and British governments have a prime responsibility in that regard.”
