Those lost during Covid must never be forgotten says Smith

20 March 2022

Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal and Health Spokesperson Duncan Smith has today (Sunday 20th March) expressed the solidarity and support of Labour Party members to all those grieving the loss of loved ones who died during the pandemic and to the frontline workers still battling Covid on hospital wards across the county.

Deputy Smith, who will represent the Labour Party at a ceremony at the Garden of Remembrance at 2.30pm said:

“Faced with the uncertainty of a global pandemic so many of us have reflected on our mortality and the mortality of those close to us, all the things that make life worthwhile and how the adversity we faced brought out the best in us as a collective. These lessons cannot be lost on us as public representatives or as a people.

In Ireland, we celebrate the lives of people who have passed better than almost anywhere else in the world. Those of us who have celebrated the life of someone close to us prior to the pandemic feel in their hearts the comfort this long standing and proud tradition can bring to the bereaved. Today is a day that we, as a community, can finally provide that comfort and solidarity to so many people who lost loved ones and pay tribute to the work and sacrifice of so many frontline workers who kept us safe throughout the pandemic.”
