Night-time infrastructure must go hand in glove with extended opening hours – Horgan
Labour Local Area Rep in Cork City Peter Horgan has said that night-time infrastructure must go hand in glove with extended licence opening hours proposed by the Government.
“Liberalising the licence laws is a welcome move by the Government but it cannot be done in isolation for what the night-time economy needs to operate efficiently and safely for all,” said Mr Horgan.
“The night time economy taskforce needs to show implementation by ensuring there are services available such as public transport, additional Gardaí, additional capacity of worker’s rights protections for those working such anti-social hours also. We have yet to see the full bill but I will be stressing, through our employment affairs spokesperson Senator Marie Sherlock, the need to ensure the safety and workers rights of all those now looking at a much different night-time economy.”
“It highlights also the need to ramp up the 24 hour routes southside and northside that Labour Transport Spokesperson Duncan Smith TD, Cllr John Maher and I successfully argued to be included in Bus Connects Cork last year.”
