Report into mishandling of abuse cases at St. John’s Ambulance must be published without further delay
Delays in the publishing of Dr Geoffrey Shannon’s report into the mishandling of abuse cases at St. John’s Ambulance is wholly unacceptable and leading to a retraumatising of victims and survivors, Labour Senator Annie Hoey has said.
Dublin Northwest Senator and Oireachtas Health Committee member Annie Hoey said:
“In November, the Seanad Labour Party group supported a motion that Seanad Éireann demand the immediate publication by the Board of St. John’s Ambulance of the review into allegations of sexual abuse in that organisation. To date this review has not been published.
“This delay is shameful and is only heading to the retraumatising of the victims that is bravely came forward and gave their testimony.
“We have a dark history in this state of how we treat victims when they come forward. It is time for St John’s Ambulance to do the right thing and publish this report without any further delay.”
