Aid Scheme for homes and businesses needed after Cork floods
Labour spokesperson on Social Protection Sean Sherlock TD, has called on the Department of Social Protection and Government to ensure an emergency humanitarian support scheme for homes, businesses, and the community sector is opened immediately to support those impacted by the sudden flooding in Midleton and surrounding East Cork areas, along with Glanmire.
Deputy Sherlock said:
“It is important now that the Minister for Social Protection mobilises resources to support the people in Midleton and surrounding areas impacted by this shocking flood.
“The Humanitarian Assistance Scheme must be fully resourced, and Community Welfare Officers on hand to support those needing financial assistance.
“Schools, businesses and many community and sport groups will also be impacted. Most recently in June the government opened an Aid Scheme for small Businesses and Community, Voluntary & Sporting Bodies through the Red Cross.
“I urge the Minister for Social Protection and the Taoiseach to act immediately and provide the necessary support to those who have been impacted by this flooding.”
