Aodhán Ó Ríordáin: Championing Dublin’s Voice in Europe
Labour’s Dublin candidate, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin TD, will officially launch his European election campaign today, setting out a bold vision for the city’s future. Speaking ahead of his European campaign launch, Ó Ríordáin outlined his commitment to fight tirelessly for Dubliners.
Deputy Aodhán Ó Ríordáin said,
“Dublin needs someone who will tirelessly advocate for its interests in Europe. We cannot afford to have another government mouthpiece or Kremlin acolyte. Dublin deserves a champion who will work, sweat, and fight every day for its people.
“Children must be the priority in all political decisions. It is a disgrace that over 4000 children are languishing in emergency homeless accommodation. I pledge to fight alongside progressives for a comprehensive European plan on affordable housing to address this crisis.
“We must also stand firm against the regressive politics of Ursula von der Leyen and other conservative institutions. Her leadership of the European People’s Party is leading us down a dangerous path, aligning with far-right ideologies. Her version of the UK Rwanda policy must be opposed vigorously. Dublin needs a leader who will challenge such divisive and harmful agendas.
The European Union must realise that it needs rebirth. That the people of the EU need to be inspired by its ideals again. That as once it stood for the rebuilding of a war-ravaged continent it must now stand for the building of homes. As once it stood for a threshold of decency and equality in the workplace, it must stand for the eradication of low pay.
Where once it stood for fundamental rights, it must now stand for a fundamentally re-imagined Europe. A Europe that houses. A Europe that pays a living wage. A Europe that cares as much about a Common Childcare Policy as it does about a Common
Agricultural Policy.
“Now is the time to stand up for Dublin. Together, we can ensure that Dublin remains a vibrant, inclusive, and prosperous place for all its residents. For the Love of Dublin.”
