What was Harris doing in Further and Higher Education?
Labour spokesperson on Further and Higher Education Annie Hoey has called on Simon Harris to account for his oversight across further and higher education institutions as multiple issues arise in the area.
Senator Hoey said:
“It’s clear that there’s a range of governance issues at further and higher education institutions, all while the Taoiseach in waiting Simon Harris was supposed to be in control.
“It beggars belief that the situation in the University of Limerick got so out of control, and I would share the concerns of all staff there that it is students’ education that will pay the price for this failure of oversight.
“While I note the Junior Minister has made media appearances addressing the crisis, his answers were far from satisfactory. I am calling on Simon Harris to make a statement regarding what he knew about the situation in UL, and release all correspondences that he had with the institution in his remit as Minister for the sector.
“It’s clear that Harris has spent his entire tenure in the Department shoring up votes of his Parliamentary Party colleagues to anoint him as leader of Fine Gael and the country.
“His legacy in the Department looks set to be a sector in chaos.”
