UHL report demands immediate action
Labour’s Health Spokesperson, Duncan Smith TD, has called for immediate and decisive action following the publication of the report into the tragic death of Aoife Johnston at University Hospital Limerick (UHL).
Deputy Smith said: “It is heartbreaking to read the findings of the report into Aoife Johnston’s death. My thoughts are with Aoife’s family and her community today.
“It is devastating to think that a young life has been lost due to avoidable shortcomings in our healthcare system. The report highlights the unacceptable staffing levels at the Emergency Department in UHL, and this is something that cannot be ignored. It is simply unconscionable that we continue to have a situation where lives are at risk due to inadequate staffing. The healthcare professionals at UHL are doing their absolute best under impossible conditions, but the system is failing them.
“The real issue here is that this is not the first report to expose the dangerous conditions at UHL. We have had report after report, and yet there seems to be very little real, impactful action from the Government.
“Minister Donnelly needs to urgently address this crisis. The people of Limerick and the Mid-West deserve better. The healthcare workers deserve better. Government must finally step up and deliver the resources needed”
