Relief Scheme for Households, Small Business & Farmers needed following recent storms
Labour Cork North Central TD Eoghan Kenny has expressed the urgent need for a Humanitarian Relief Fund to be established to support households, small business, and farmers who have suffered property damage during the recent storms in January 2025.
Deputy Kenny said:
“With the impact of the recent winter snowstorms and Storm Eowyn still being felt, it is vital that government and local authorities commence a relief scheme to support those who have suffered damage to residential and commercial property.
“I have been contacted by many people over the last three weeks who have had damage to their homes and business following the effects of these storms. I have also been in contact with numerous farmers who have suffered significant damage to property. Many of these have told me that their insurance policies do not cover damage to property caused by storms and extreme weather conditions.
“Many small businesses, small farmers and households simply do not have the funds to manage these repairs. They are now in a position where their livelihoods and homes are damaged through no fault of their own.
“Following previous storms and flooding events, Humanitarian Relief Schemes were established to support people who suffered such loses to these weather events.
“These supports will be vital in order for households and small enterprises to rebuild their homes and livelihoods going forward.”
