Labour demands urgent action to protect workers following New Look closures
Labour’s Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Spokesperson George Lawlor TD has described the announcement that fashion retailer New Look is to exit Ireland as a devastating blow for workers, their families, and communities across the country. The decision, which puts 347 jobs at risk, highlights the need for stronger protections for retail workers facing sudden redundancies.
Deputy Lawlor said:
“The news that New Look is closing its Irish stores, leaving 347 workers facing redundancy, is deeply concerning. This is not just a business decision—it has real human consequences for the dedicated staff. These workers and their families now face an uncertain future, and it is essential that their rights and entitlements are protected.
“New Look Retailers Ireland Ltd must recognise the human impact of this decision and immediately engage with workers in a meaningful and constructive manner. Workers must be given clarity on redundancy terms or redeployment options. They cannot be left in limbo.
“I am calling on New Look to act responsibly and immediately open discussions with union representatives. My office is open and ready for any of the Wexford store workers should they need assistance at this difficult time.”
