Further disinformation from Government on housing
- Correspondence between DPER and Housing must be published
Responding to reports in the Daily Mail that the Government is robbing Peter to pay Paul when it comes to ‘new’ housing spend, Labour housing spokesperson Conor Sheehan has called on the new Housing Minister to come clean once and for all.
Deputy Sheehan said:
“The public have a right to know what is going on in the Department of Housing. This morning we see another instance of misleading the public on housing supply, spend and targets. I would urge the Minister to clear up this debacle once and for all in the Dáil next week.
“The public have a right to know what is going on. As such, I would urge the Government to publish all correspondence between the Department of Housing and DPER on this matter.
“Attempting to blind the public with science is not working. The truth about housing completions in 2024 has also emerged, with the public wilfully misled about the true level of house building last year. They knew their Housing for All plan wasn’t working but the truth was buried until after the election when it emerged just 30,030 homes were built rather than the promised 40,000.
“Now we see the new Minister announcing “new” money for housing projects, when really he’s just playing catch up on missed targets by the last Minister.
“The government is out of ideas and it’s not pulling the wool over anyone eyes. Unless the new Minister changes course the housing crisis will only deepen.”
