Ó Ríordáin Appointed Lead Social Democratic Negotiator on Housing in the European Parliament
Aodhán Ó Ríordáin MEP has been appointed as the lead negotiator on housing for Socialists & Democrats Group (S&D), Labour’s political family in the European Parliament.
This key role will see him drive the Group’s priorities on housing policy at the European level, focusing on tackling homelessness and ensuring affordable, secure housing for all.
Speaking about his appointment, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin MEP said:
“I’m incredibly proud to be appointed as the Socialists & Democrats’ lead negotiator for the European Parliament’s Housing Committee.
“Since the start of this mandate, housing has been the top priority for European social democrats. Working with my colleagues we secured an EU Housing Commissioner and established a Special Housing Committee of the European Parliament.
“Given the importance of this subject for our Group, this appointment is both an honour and a major responsibility – one I intend to take seriously.
“Right now, 900,000 people across the EU are homeless—including 3,500 children in Dublin. Their voices, their struggles, and their futures will be at the heart of my work on this committee.”
