First decision of chaotic coalition a shambles - The Labour Party
Labour housing spokesperson Conor Sheehan TD has described the handling of the head of the Strategic Housing Activation Office as shambolic.
Deputy Sheehan said:
“From the beginning of his appointment to the Department Minister Browne has acted with utter incompetence from the get go.
“Minister Browne spent the last number months trying to appoint someone on nearly half a million euro and still has not come forward with legislation to underpin the office.
“On top of this, it’s clear that this Government will operate the country on the basis of who can get the press release out first. The manner in which this nixer was attempted to be rammed through by Fianna Fáil beggars belief.
“The big question now is if Fine Gael have blocked the appointment of McDonagh because they felt he wasn’t the right man for the job, or because Harris is disappointed he didn’t get the hop on his colleagues in Fianna Fáil. Either way, this is no way to run a country.
“There now needs to be a position advertised in the normal public appointment manner including a job description and salary. A good start is half the battle, but I fear the housing crisis will only worsen under this Minister.”
