Kenny calls for full equality in school communities this May Day - The Labour Party

Labour education spokesperson Eoghan Kenny TD has reiterated his calls on Government to deliver pension equality for all school staff, including secretaries and caretakers.

Deputy Kenny said:

“It’s crazy to me that in 2025 we’re still having this debate. Not before time, school secretaries are now being paid directly by the Department of Education. That was a vital step forward, but to think that they are still not entitled to a pension is simply unfair.

“Yesterday, I met with Forsa where we discussed the need to ensure that all members of our school communities are recognised and respected for the vital role they play in our education system.

“It’s unacceptable that the terms and conditions are different for school secretaries, caretaker and other staff members than teachers. Let’s recognise the role that all staff members play in our schools.

“Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael now have the opportunity to right this wrong. This May Day, I’m calling for urgent action to ensure that all school staff are treated equally, and that pensions are provided as a basic right for every worker supporting our education system.”
