Sheehan calls for urgent clarity from Carelon - The Labour Party

Labour’s Conor Sheehan TD for Limerick has expressed deep concern following news that 300 jobs are at risk as Carelon Global Solutions plans to shut its Limerick base. Deputy Sheehan is calling on the company to immediately engage with staff and their union representatives, provide clarity on redundancy terms or redeployment options, and end the uncertainty facing affected workers and their families.

Deputy Sheehan said:

“This announcement is deeply worrying for the 300 workers in Limerick who now face an uncertain and potentially devastating future. This is not just a business decision—it has real human consequences. These are dedicated staff who have contributed to the company’s success, and they deserve more than silence or ambiguity in return.

“Carelon must recognise the human impact of this closure and act swiftly. The workers must be given clarity on what comes next. Will there be redeployment? What are the redundancy terms? How are their rights and entitlements going to be protected? The worst thing we can do is leave people in limbo. It is essential that Carelon engage in good faith with trade union representatives and workers without delay. The company has an obligation to do the right thing by its staff and act with transparency, decency and urgency.

“We also need to ask: where is the Minister for Enterprise? These jobs didn’t appear out of nowhere. Significant investment, both in terms of the IDA, and attracting a skilled workforce has been put into Carelon. This company is clearly profitable so we need answers – why has this decision been allowed to happen with such little warning? What engagement has the Minister had with the parent company? Have there been attempts to prevent this given that this was flagged two months ago?

“I want to make clear that my office is open to any of the impacted workers in Limerick who need advice, support or advocacy at this difficult time. I will continue to stand up for them and raise this issue at the highest level. Carelon must act responsibly. They must engage with workers now.”
