Kenny wishes best of luck to all Leaving Cert students - The Labour Party
On the eve of the Leaving Certificate examinations beginning, Labour’s education spokesperson Eoghan Kenny TD has expressed his good wishes to all students.
Deputy Kenny said:
“I want to express my best wishes to the thousands of students across the country starting the State exams tomorrow. It’s a huge day in a student’s life and one they have been preparing and studying extremely hard for.
“There’s a stressful few weeks ahead not only for the students who have worked hard, but also for their parents. It’s an important occasion for the families of students who will be going through the ups and downs with them. I want to wish every student the very best as exams begin. Remember to keep calm, read the questions properly and to use all the time you’ve been given.
“As a former secondary school teacher, I’m deeply conscious of the pressures surrounding the exams and the wait for the results. Exam season can be a time of extreme stress for young people and I would urge students to just do their best and try not to put themselves under added pressure over the next few weeks.
“It’s also important to remember that there are many options regarding education and training available to students once the exams are over.
“Finally, I would like to pay tribute to the thousands of teachers around the country who have been working so hard to ensure their students are exam-ready.
“I do hope that the Minister for Education heeds the stories and experiences of teachers, students and parents across the country and takes a more considered approach to the proposed reform of the Leaving Cert.
“Labour has long called for the modernising the Leaving Cert. We want progress. But progress needs planning. Poorly implemented reforms will benefit no one – not teachers, not students, not parents. That’s why Labour is calling for the Minister to listen to the sector, engage properly with teachers, and pause the entire rollout until schools are ready.”
