Time to secure an apartheid free TCD - Harmon - The Labour Party
Labour spokesperson on Further and Higher Education Senator Laura Harmon has offered her support of the Trinity College Dublin Student Union protest to demand for divestment tomorrow, June 4th, at 9am.
Senator Harmon said:
“The student movement has long been at the forefront of change and calling out atrocities globally. As Israel continues to wage its war on Gaza, the Labour Party offer full support of the TCD Students’ Union protest tomorrow outside Trinity Business School.
“Last year, the activism of Trinity students saw ties cut from Israel and the establishment of a taskforce to create policy around the creation of future ties. The recommendations of this taskforce will be voted on by the board of Trinity tomorrow.
“This vote is an important moment for all further and higher education institutions in Ireland and offers every sector an opportunity to reiterate support for Gaza.
“Israel must be isolated politically, culturally, economically and academically like what was done to South Africa during apartheid. Making Trinity apartheid free is just one of the many ways students and academics can ensure their voices are heard.”
