Ó Ríordáin calls out hollow Dublin roadmap - The Labour Party
Labour’s MEP for Dublin Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has slammed the Government’s ‘Roadmap for Dublin’, calling it another example of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil governing by press release, and demanding real action to reverse years of decay and neglect in our capital city.
Aodhán Ó Ríordáin MEP said:
“This Government announcement shows once again that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are quick to complain about the state of Dublin, but blind to the fact that they caused this decay in the first place. Dublin feels unsafe because Fine Gael gutted community policing. People can’t get housed because Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have failed on housing. Our arts venues are closing, schools can’t find teachers, and Dublin City Council is starved of funds — all because of Fine Gael’s choices.
“I welcome any real plan that tackles dereliction, but let’s be clear: these empty sites should become homes for essential workers are a top priority. Nurses, teachers, Gardaí — these are the people who keep Dublin running and yet can’t afford to live here. That must change.
“Once again, though, we see a press release instead of real governance. There’s talk of a new agency — but why aren’t the elected representatives of Dublin City Council entrusted with this work?
“This is our capital city — it must be a safe, vibrant place where families and workers can afford to put down roots and build their lives. The time for spin is over. Dubliners deserve delivery, not empty announcements. We need to shift from flashy announcements to real delivery — funding local councils properly, guaranteeing affordable housing, supporting Gardaí and community services, and revitalising the arts and culture that make Dublin special.”
