Labour LGBTQ+ activists travel to Budapest for Pride - The Labour Party
This weekend, Labour LGBTQ+ activists will travel to the Budapest Pride March to stand up to Viktor Orban’s disgraceful ban and to stand in solidarity with the Hungarian LGBTQ+ community.
Labour LGBTQ+ activist Karl Hayden said:
“We’re journeying to Budapest to stand in solidarity with Hungary’s LGBTQ+ community—because every person deserves respect, dignity, and understanding. The Labour Party stands for equality, dignity, and freedom — and those values don’t stop at our borders. The European Court of Human Rights is clear: LGBTQ+ people have the right to be visible, safe, and proud.
“I am proud to represent the Irish Labour Party and its values in Budapest, and to march with the LGBTQ+ community of Hungary which is facing an authoritarian government attempting to silence and render them invisible.”
Labour LGBTQ+ activist Eddie McGuinness said:
“I’m proud to represent the Irish Labour Party and its values in Budapest. It’s an honour to march alongside Hungary’s LGBTQ+ community, who continue to stand strong in the face of an authoritarian government determined to silence and erase them. Support and solidarity across borders is vital in the fight for equality and human rights.
“From my first Dublin Pride in 1993 to missing this year’s parade for the first time — as an act of solidarity with our LGBTQ+ friends across Europe who no longer have a voice — these moments remind us that the struggle for equality is far from over. They also remind us why it’s so important that we stand together.
