Labour Party taking to the street to celebrate Pride in Dublin - The Labour Party
Labour leader Ivana Bacik TD will lead the Labour Party’s contingent at this year’s Pride March in Dublin from 12 noon today.
Speaking in advance, Deputy Bacik said:
“We in the Labour Party look forward to honouring the tradition of Pride today. As we take to the streets in Dublin, we remember and celebrate the advancements that have been won, while protesting to highlight the challenges that still remain.
“Pride began as a protest, and it is an honour to march alongside LGBTQ+ Labour members and allies today. The continued incidence of violence against and online targeting of LGBTQ+ people is deeply concerning. Public representatives must stand in solidarity with the community and send a clear signal that we believe in a society where everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, can live free from fear and discrimination.
“As we celebrate today in Dublin, we also express our strong solidarity with those marching for Pride in Budapest. Members of our Labour LGBTQ section have travelled to Hungary to join them, in defiance of the vicious homophobia policies adopted by the Orban Government there.
“Dublin Pride is not only a celebration but a crucial platform for us to protest, to remember, and to advocate for equality.”
