IT failures should have been lesson for Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil - The Labour Party
Labour’s justice spokesperson Alan Kelly TD said the use of the same company for Fiosrú following the Arts Council IT overruns beggars belief.
Deputy Kelly said:
“The fact that the same company was used by Fiosrú – after the Arts Council saga – shows the failure of this Government to keep an eye on the public purse.
“Why are Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil so intent on throwing good money after bad time and again?
“There are many Departments and Government agencies that will need IT overhauls over the coming years and this is welcome. But the public need assurances that this will be delivered in a timely, cost effective way.
“We need to hear from Minister O’Callaghan with further details on this project and how it is progressing. I’m deeply aware that there are a range of issues within the Department of Justice that the Minister is struggling to get on top of. However, the Department cannot afford to take their eye off of this.
“Having modern, flexible IT infrastructure is critical to the proper working of the Garda Ombudsman. I will be writing to Minister O’Callaghan to ask for a detailed breakdown of the project to date.”
