FF FG failure to invest in Dublin laid bare once again - The Labour Party

  • Asics burgled third time since opening

Labour’s MEP for Dublin Aodhán Ó Ríordáin said Fine Gael representatives need to realise that they are in Government.

Calling out the hollow plan for Dublin published last week, Ó Ríordáin said plans aren’t worth the paper they’re written on if they’re not matched with action.

Ó Ríordáin said:

“The failure of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to address the root causes of issues in Dublin beggars belief. Just last night, a shop on O’Connell Street was burgled for the third time since it opened. Where is the Garda presence Dubliners have long been promised?

“Only 149 new Gardaí graduated in Templemore in March of this year. 98 of these have been stationed in Dublin, but it’s really not enough to keep pace with the Garda presence that’s needed. In the plan published by Fine Gael last week, there was not so much of a mention of the need for 1,000 extra Gardaí, no reference to a pathway to getting us there.

“For those of us serious about change in Dublin, it’s really galling to see the lip service paid by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil without any detail or action. Do these parties realise they are in the position to make change for our capital city?

“Dublin is a great city and a great place to live but under this Government’s watch it’s going backwards.”
