HIQA report into 27 Emeis Homes is alarming and incomplete - The Labour Party
- HSE must immediately step in to operate problematic nursing homes
Responding to the publication tonight of the HIQA review in all 27 Emeis Homes, Labour Health spokesperson Marie Sherlock said that the report shows up alarming findings.
Deputy Sherlock said:
“The HIQA review indicates that a large number of nursing homes have been found to have serious regulatory failings. The report is incomplete however, as the outcome of individual reports into these serious cases is awaited.
“In short, the loved ones of residents in these nursing homes are being told that there is a problem, but it is not clear when or how exactly this is being fixed.
“This is utterly unacceptable and we are calling on Government to ensure that the HSE immediately steps in to operate and manage the problematic nursing homes immediately.
“Resident safety and care must never be something that is fixed over a period of time, assurances to safe levels of care must be given immediately.
“Based on the information provided this evening, we believe the serious issues in nursing homes such as Blainroe, the Residence Carton, Brentwood, Kilminchy and Athlunkard require immediate and comprehensive intervention by the HSE.”
