Labour Court must intervene in school secretaries and caretakers dispute
Labour Court must intervene in school secretaries and caretakers dispute - The Labour Party
Labour’s education spokesperson Eoghan Kenny TD has tonight called on the Labour Court to intervene in the dispute on pension parity for school secretaries and caretakers.
Speaking this evening, Kenny said it is shameful that this dispute has continued despite schools returning this week.
Deputy Kenny said:
“The disrespectful and frankly degrading manner in which school secretaries and caretakers have been treated is disgraceful. This week I was proud to stand with the thousands of Forsa members who took to the streets to send a clear message to Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil that there must be equality for caretakers and secretaries.
“Enough is enough. It’s time for the Labour Court to intervene. We’re talking about workers that are absolutely essential to the running of our schools and they are being failed by this State.
“My own grandmother is 70 and, despite giving her life to working in a school, she will retire without a State pension. It’s outrageous. All these workers are asking for is basic dignity, respect and equality.
“We need to see this dispute resolved. It’s time for the Labour Court to intervene.”
