Kenny slams Government hypocrisy on school strike - The Labour Party

  • FF & FG politicians back strikes they could have stopped
  • Workers treated with disrespect while Government stands idle

Labour’s Education Spokesperson Eoghan Kenny TD has today slammed the “breathtaking hypocrisy” of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael representatives who are coming out in public support of striking school secretaries and caretakers while their own Government continues to do nothing to resolve the dispute.

Deputy Kenny said:

“The sheer cheek of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael councillors and MEPs standing on posing for photos, and pretending to back school secretaries and caretakers — while their own Government has left these workers high and dry. This strike is now in its seventh day. Schools are under immense pressure. Families are being disrupted. And yet, the Ministers responsible are hiding in the shadows.

“If Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael truly support these workers, they should be using their power in Cabinet to end this dispute today. Anything less is pure political theatre.

“This is a crisis of Government’s own making. For years, successive FF/FG-led Governments have failed to value these essential staff. Caretakers and secretaries are the backbone of our schools, yet they have been treated with outright disrespect when it comes to pay, conditions, and contracts. We need action now.”
