Kenny welcomes ATU STEM build but demands wider investment - The Labour Party
Labour’s Education Spokesperson Eoghan Kenny TD said the commencement of works on the new STEM building at the Atlantic Technological University Galway City Campus is very welcome news, but further investment is needed.
Deputy Kenny said:
“This announcement represents real progress. A new STEM building at ATU Galway will expand access to innovation and skills. It will create new teaching spaces and give students access to the facilities they need to thrive. Galway deserves world class college infrastructure and this project will play a key role in that future.
“But while today’s news is welcome, it cannot be the only action taken. Across the country, colleges are struggling to expand due to outdated buildings, limited lab space and growing student numbers. Too many campuses are full to capacity because Government has been slow to invest in higher education infrastructure.
“Today is a good day for Galway and for ATU, but it should be the start of a wider commitment to higher education. Students deserve modern facilities and they deserve somewhere affordable to live. Government must use this momentum to fund more college infrastructure. The time for half measures is over. Invest now and give students the future they deserve.”
