App stores must suspend downloading of Grok as stop gap solution - The Labour Party

Labour Party TD and Chairperson of the Oireachtas Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport Committee Alan Kelly has called on Apple and Google to suspend access to the Grok app on their stores.

Deputy Kelly said:

“This is a stop gap measure but an important one to limit access to Grok. It’s time for app stores to withdraw Grok from their app stores until the issue is resolved.

“The misuse of AI tools in this way is truly shocking and we need to see more organisations step in and step up to safeguard against this behaviour. Ultimately, we need to see stronger legislation in place at a national, European and International level to safeguard against the use of AI in this manner.

“Technology is evolving faster than enforcement, but this whole debacle has shown just how critical it is that our Government gets up to speed on the technologies that could be available to counter the use of AI in this way. This process must run in tandem to strengthen existing laws in Ireland such as Coco’s Law.”
