Israeli targeting of journalists exposes depth of depravity - The Labour Party

Labour’s spokesperson on foreign affairs Duncan Smith TD said the findings by the Committee to Protect Journalists highlights the devastating ways in which Israel has acted with impunity in Gaza.

As the CPJ reports that a record 129 journalists and media workers were killed in the course of their work in 2025, Deputy Smith said these reports serve as devastating reminders of the actions of Israel in Gaza.

Deputy Smith said:

“The CPJ report reiterates the well documented targeting by Israel on innocents – people, children, medical professions and journalists. Since the horrific attacks of October 7th 2023, the devastation that has unfolded before the world has been harrowing.

“We are living through a time where we have turned to journalists to lay bear the reality of the genocide in Gaza. That they face such relentless targeting in the pursuit of the truth is harrowing.

“Journalists have a right to be protected from attack yet it is clear that Israel believes the rules do not apply to them. We stand with all media workers in the face of such attacks.”
