Minister must make urgent statement to the Dáil to explain how dual-use technology has been exported to Israel - The Labour Party
- Smith calls for Government to make statement in Dáil following revelations that Ireland approved €20mn in dual-use exports to IDF and Israeli Defence Ministry
Labour’s foreign affairs spokesperson Duncan Smith TD called on Minster Peter Burke to make an urgent statement in the Dáil following revelations that the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment sanctioned the export of €20mn worth of dual-use technology to the IDF in 2024.
Deputy Smith said:
“I am absolutely disgusted that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil could have allowed trade and production of dual-use technology to have occurred with Israel at the height of its illegal war on Gaza. These revelations make a mockery of Government’s support for Palestine.
“How low can this Government go? It is beyond belief. What is even more concerning is that this practice was stopped in 2025, not in 2024. Did Government wilfully turn a blind eye to what was happening?
“There are now more questions than answers when it comes to what level of support Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil truly have for the Palestinian people. It is a betrayal of their word to the Irish people and indeed of the wishes of Irish people, effectively leaving Ireland complicit in the horrific genocide that Israel has waged on the people of Palestine.
“We all recall the lipservice that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil payed to Palestinian people in the run up to the General Election in 2024. However, their actions are in complete contradiction to their words. Minister Burke must make a statement to the House on just what happened here.”
