Kenny calls for clarity and constructive engagement following Labour Court recommendation on school secretaries’ and caretakers’ pensions - The Labour Party
Labour Party Spokesperson on Education, Eoghan Kenny TD, has welcomed today’s Labour Court recommendation on pension arrangements for school secretaries and caretakers and has called on all parties to work constructively towards a fair resolution.
Commenting today, Deputy Kenny said:
“School secretaries and caretakers are indispensable members of our school communities. They play a vital role in ensuring our schools function every day and deserve fairness, dignity and certainty when it comes to their retirement.
“The Labour Court’s recommendation is an important development. It recognises concerns that have been raised regarding pension arrangements for school secretaries and caretakers and provides a basis for further discussions between the parties.”
Deputy Kenny noted that the recommendation is not yet a final agreement and urged that the next phase of negotiations proceed without unnecessary delay.
“It is important that the Government, employers and union representatives now engage constructively to provide clarity for the workers affected. Those working in our schools deserve to know what today’s recommendation means for them and what the next steps will be.”
Deputy Kenny also encouraged school secretaries and caretakers to stay informed as negotiations continue.
“I know many school secretaries and caretakers will have questions about today’s recommendation and how it may affect their individual circumstances. I would encourage those affected to follow updates from their representative bodies and to engage with the process as negotiations progress.”
